Japanese aesthetics meets Nordic minimalism in a 1977 flat.
This couple chose their home for where it sits, minutes from Marine Parade MRT, with East Coast Park and a seafront lifestyle just a short ride away on weekends. The flat itself was another story, dated and in need of a full gut renovation to match the life they wanted. Big on style themselves, they drew heavily from timeless design trends out of Tokyo, favouring quality over quantity. The brief was clear from the start: subdued colours in natural shades, subtle lighting, and dark wood furniture introduced as contrast throughout. What emerged is modern minimalist in the quietest sense, warm neutrals and clean lines that feel closer to a boutique hotel than a typical resale flat.

In the living room, a low sofa and ottoman were built around their vinyl collection, a dedicated spot to lounge with a record playing and nowhere else to be. With no kids and a shared love for travel and music, they didn't need more rooms, just one that felt entirely their own to slow down in.

The bedroom carries the same restraint through, warm tones and clean lines that keep the space feeling calm rather than curated. It is a room built for rest, closer in feeling to the hotels they return from than the flat it once was.
